about me
i am stuart hunt, from burton upon trent in the midlands. i got into design in 6th form and instantly found a subject that i could associate with and enjoy. ever since, i have loved every part of design. i always try to make my work fun and interesting. whilst products often have a serious side to them, i think that the fun side of things is overlooked too much.
honours project
overview
this project started off as designing a product to address the issue of vandalism. it quickly became apparent that there were three routes that could be taken. either design a product that protects other products from vandalism, a product that aids the prosecution of offenders, or a redesign an existing product to be more vandal proof. the third option was taken and led to the redesign of a bus shelter. other street furniture was considered but i felt the bus shelter was an ideal product because they have been left behind a bit with modern technology and it would be an opportunity to align them with modern times.
design detail
overview
the project initially started off as trying to develop an outdoor toy for children. as issues such as childhood obesity became apparent, the brief evolved into developing a toy for children that encourages them to run. through the research many different methods and features to make the product more fun and keep the children entertained for longer were established. the final product, named ‘spurtle’ is a garden sprinkler toy with a difference. with its own character and intelligence, the toy encourages the kids to have fun, run around and get wet. with 8 different games, and different difficulty settings, children of all ages will be entertained for hours. the built in sensors guide the stream of water in the right direction, ensuring buckets of fun and a soaking all round.
career aspirations
in an ideal world, i would love to be able to design with no boundaries, and allow my creativity to run wild, however in this real world id love to just be settled into design. the biggest achievement in my life will be the day i turn on the television and see and advertisement for a product that i have designed. anything beyond that would just be a fantastic bonus.
