about me
i like design because different projects offer a completely different way of thinking. i enjoy using my creativity to approach and complete a project.
honours project
overview
with the worlds global population rapidly increasing it is becoming more difficult to product enough food for everybody on the planet. third world countries and the larger developed countries are the ones that will struggle the most. to help this growing problem more food is needed in the struggling areas.

i am going to create a product  that encourages populations in developed urban areas to cultivate and produce food for their own consumption. this product will be easy to use and environmentally friendly throughout the product life span. the urban farming device will be able grow a variety of different crops depending on season, ideal growing conditions and users preference. the product will fit into the consumer’s lives and routines and could eventually create a totally self sufficient urban population.

the growing unit will be easy to use and maintenance of it will be minimal. the product will need no plumbing or electrical hook up. it will be a free standing unit and its only requirement from the user is to be watered several times a week.

with urban areas populations increasing, day to day life for the masses in the city is becoming busier and more stressful. the urban farming product could be marketed as a hobby or stress relief product as well as the food production device for the masses in urban areas. the product could alternatively take on an aesthetic and functional properties, for example the urban farming unit could be a piece of furniture or art.

overview
the area of design i am looking into is sports protection specifically a protective helmet for cricket.  i would like to design a radical helmet which is both stylish and performs and exceeds the expectation of the safety standards.   the helmet design will use alternative materials to those currently on the market.  the helmet will hold some of the characteristics of a modern cricket helmet, but will also include additional components which have a more contemporary design style and eye catching design features including airbags, polycarbonate face guard and a more appealing colour choice.
career aspirations
i would love to go into the sport and recreation area of design, weather that be designing performance enhancing clothing and equipment to leisure and safety products. this area interests me not just by the equipment and performance side of it but also the technical and psychological side of physical activity and leisure.
